The Institute of Preventive Medicine, Environmental and Occupational Health - Prolepsis is a non-profit organization, active in the field of medical research, health promotion, environmental and occupational health since 1991. Prolepsis has long experience in the organization and implementation of programs in the fields of preventive medicine including screening, health promotion and public health programmes on a national and European level.

Prolepsis was responsible for setting up a cervical cancer screening program in the region of Ormylia in Halkidiki.  The project was initiated in 1992, (initially as a pilot) inviting the female population of the region aged 20-70 years to undergo cytological and gynaecological examination at the Centre"Our Lady Who LovesMankind"in Ormylia, Halkidiki. The target population was 25,000 (in 1991) and all women were personally invited to have a smear (PAP) test annually by experienced gynaecologists. A similar project was set up for mammography and clinical breast examinations with the paritcipation of approximatelly 10,000 women (in 1991) aged 40-70 years old. Both screening programmes are model units of secondary prevention in Greece and members of the European Network for Quality Assurance in Mammography and cervical cancer Screening (European Commission, Public Health Directorate).

Prolepsis coordinates and participates in a number of other EU co funded projects for example:
